Mindset Optimization
The true battleground and your biggest opportunity.
Performance Optimization · 1-on-1 Coaching
We help athletes and executives close the gap between who they are and who they have the potential to be, by elevating their mindset and their habits.
The same system we use every week with 3 NFL starting quarterbacks, 6 NBA All-Stars and 2 golfers in the PGA Top 10.
A 30-minute call by phone. I'll reach out personally, usually the same day.
“More than 50% of my performance comes down to winning the battle with my negative voice.”
“My physical abilities can get me in contention in tournaments but the only way to win is by being 100% locked in on winning the battle with my negative voice.”
Your performance in sports, business and life is a delayed response to the quality and consistency of your mindset, habits and discipline.

We coach athletes, executives and leaders from organizations including:
Everyone has two voices in their head: a positive voice and a negative voice.
Your positive voice talks you up, believes in you and gets you to focus on what's right instead of what's wrong. Your negative voice does the opposite. It talks you down and tries to convince you that you're not good enough and that you don't belong.
During the 120 hours you're awake each week, those two voices are fighting for the podium of your mind. Whichever one is at the podium has a huge say in how you perform, and in how you live.
Talent gets you on the team. Your work ethic gets you in the game. But only a world-class mindset will get you to your full potential.
You coach yourself all day long. Everyone does it in one of five ways:
My job is to move you to number 5 and keep you there, especially when it matters most: in competition, in the boardroom and under pressure.

On and off the court, field, course, ice, marketplace, etc.
Following through on your habits, especially when you don't feel like it.
Personally and professionally.
Your real competitors aren't the other team or the other company. They're your negative voice, your prior self and your cell phone.
The goal is for professional athletes to 3X the average career length in their league, and for business leaders to thrive for decades.
Playing your sport or doing your job.
Showing the people around you what's possible. To lead it, you have to be it.
Closing the gap between who you are and who you have the potential to be.
Every call gives you 2 or 3 new tools you can use that week. Here are four examples.
Most people think they're competing against the other team or the other company. Your biggest competitors are your negative voice, your prior self (are you better than you were last week, last month, last year?) and your cell phone. We score how you're doing against each one and build a plan to beat all three.
Your brain is an energy hog. It takes up 2% of your body mass but uses 25% of your energy, and under high stress that goes up to 30% to 40%. You would never run a hard practice on game day, so why put your mind through one? We build "mind walls" before competition and big days, like deciding in advance whose texts you'll read in the hours before a game, so you start mentally light and stay sharp when it counts.
Confidence is an indication of preparation. Pressure is an indication of a lack of preparation. World-class preparation is as much about what you stop doing as what you start doing. In fact, your success is tied more to what you stop doing (especially in your mind) than to what you start doing.
Two people can spend the same 8 hours in bed and get very different amounts of real sleep. If your sleep efficiency goes from 80% to 95%, you get about 9 more minutes of actual sleep for every hour in bed. Over a full night, that's more than an extra hour. We track it with a WHOOP or an Oura Ring and build the habits that move the number.
30 minutes by phone. We talk about where you are, where you want to go, and whether coaching is the right fit.
We start by going through 9 key areas of your life: your family and schedule, your sport or career background, your goals, your training, sleep, hydration, nutrition, medical history and how you manage stress.
30 minutes, same day and time every week, by phone. Every call gives you 2 or 3 new tools and strategies to control your mindset, optimize your habits and elevate your discipline.
You score yourself each week on the 40 Peak Performance Habits in the patent-pending Performance Optimization System: 16 Mindset, 6 Exercise, 6 Nutrition, 6 Sleep and 6 Healthy Longevity. It takes about 4 minutes on your phone, and we go over it on your call so you stay accountable. We also track scores like your Self-Belief Score over time, so you can see your progress in numbers.
Alex Roche, Elite Performance Coach
For the past four years, I've been trained in the Performance Optimization System by my father, Jonathan Roche, who founded Performance Optimization in 2004. I coach the same system, the same way and to the same standard.
I work with athletes and executives who are already successful and want to get to the next level. My focus is 100% on my clients.
Jonathan only coaches 50 clients and all of his spots are currently filled. I'm currently accepting a limited number of new 1-on-1 clients.
We don't share the names of any of the athletes or executives we coach, which is why you won't see client names or pictures anywhere on this site. The things our clients share with us stay between us. No social media posts, no pictures, no favors. Our focus is 100% on serving them.
If you answer yes to all five of these questions, I would love to coach you:
We'll figure out which program is the right fit on your free call.
It depends on which program is the right fit for you (6 or 12 months). We'll go over it on your free call.
Most people aren't being pushed to reach for world-class. The more successful you get, the less honest feedback you get from coaches, bosses and teammates. That's why coaching tends to have the biggest impact on people who are already at a high level.
By phone, 30 minutes, on the same day and time each week. They work wherever you are, in season or on the road.
Yes. I'll talk with both of you on the free call.
No. We never share who we coach.
No. This is performance coaching, not medical or mental health treatment.
